Hurricane Odile Relief Update

January 3, 2015 by admin

hurricane odile roof repairThe Palapa Society has had a tumultuous fall season and is justifiably proud of its accomplishments.

Thanks to the hundreds of benefactors from all over the world over $90,000 dollars was raised for hurricane relief for Todos Santos, through GoFundMe http://www.gofundme.com/eskrns, and ICF www.icfdn.org, in addition to all ticket sales from the Todos Santos Music Festival.

Donations continue to come in for Hurricane relief and, although the main part of our relief program has come to an end, we continue to accept these donations which will be used for relief programs in the local ranches and surrounding areas as needed. We are proud that we were able to field three teams of workers, six days a week during the last three months.

Each application for aid was assessed, the need evaluated, and confirmed after completion. Through these three months over 200 lamina (metal) roofs were constructed that had been blown away in Hurricane Odile providing safe living spaces for these families.

In addition 10 complete shelters were constructed for people who had lost entire homes. Hundreds of boxes and bags of food were delivered both locally and to the sierras, families were aided in replacing clothing, kitchen appliances and household items blown away in the Hurricane, and 30,000 was donated to the Hogar de Ninos to rebuild one of their shelters.

100 percent of the donations that were received were used to pay for the relief efforts, and we thank every one of you who were part of this team to bring relief to the people of Todos Santos. We appreciate the continued support of donations and we thank you all for believing in us!

Hurricane Odile Disaster Relief Fund

October 1, 2014 by admin

Hurricane Odile damage Todos Santos Palapa Society has set up a Hurricane Odile Disaster Relief Fund.

Our small town of Todos Santos, in Baja California Sur took a direct hit from Category 3 Hurricane Odile on Sunday, Sept 14th, 2014. The devastation is huge leaving no services of power or water. The markets from our small town have been depleted of supplies, many homes have been leveled, and people are struggling to survive. Still this small pueblo shows the true heart of the people of Baja with their spirit of endurance and community cooperation.
The Palapa Society of Todos Santos AC is so grateful to be able to help so many of our local towns people recover from Hurricane Odile. With your contributions we will help to feed, clothe and rebuild the homes and lives of our people in this beautiful Pueblo Magico. There are so many who have lost so much but have survived this disaster with hope and dignity. Together Todos Santos is strong and will persevere.

The Palapa Society Todos Santos is assisting more than 150 people who lost their homes and were totally displaced. We have assisted in all their needs while they are temporarily housed in Todos Santos. Phase 1 of this effort is to provide food, water, shelter and clothing.

Phase 2 of Palapa Society’s relief effort will include larger needs in the community, reconstruction and assistance with building materials for people who lost their homes.

Your generous donation is welcomed by the Palapa Society of Todos Santos Team. We are working hard in helping people in the community.

To make an immediate donation go to:

Palapa Building Campaign Fund

November 6, 2013 by admin

Join us in the launch of our 2013 Campaign to fulfill our vision and need for a permanent Palapa Society Center. In 2012, through the generosity of Peter Buck and Chloe Johnson, The Palapa Society was given temporary use of a building in the San Vicente neighborhood of Todos Santos to house The Palapa Center. Their kindness gave us a safe and convenient environment to administer community programs. It was their intention that The Palapa Society use this opportunity to begin a campaign to raise funds for acquisition of real property and the construction of a permanent Palapa Center. In 2013, we launched the “Palapa Building Campaign Fund” to make this opportunity a reality.

You can help us fulfill our vision by making a donation to the “Palapa Building Campaign Fund”

• Online: An on-line US tax deductible contribution can be made through the International Community Foundation.

• Direct Deposit/Wire Transfer: A direct deposit or wire transfer donation can be made to The Palapa Society of Todos Santos, A.C. account
